Block-boards are wooden products that widely used for home decor and furniture making. Visually, plywood and block-board look similar, however, they must not be mistaken with plywood. Block-boards have their own diverse personality. They are made from solid blocks of wood and these blocks are rectangular elongated blocks or striped blocks which are obtained from a softwood tree. These blocks are then arranged together from end to end to form a block-board core. All the blocks are always of the same size.
The general principle of the block-board is that a soft core is sandwiched between two hardwood veneers in high pressure. The best example of the soft core is the wood from a mango tree and for hard veneers, it is teak-wood. This wood is used when it comes to making lengthy furniture which should bend and remain stiff. Also, since the material is light in weight, the making becomes effortless and, so does the transportation and installation. The most common uses of block-board are; benches, long tables, panels, partitions, shelves, etc. Having a hardwood exterior makes it thoroughly sturdy and the soft core makes it light in weight.
Due to the adhesive used in making the block-board, it is only meant for the interiors. A proper craftsmanship is very important when it comes to the making of a block-board. There are chances where the screws and nails get stuck in the gap between the soft core. The standard thickness of block-boards are 19mm and 25mm and the standard size in India is 8×4 sq. ft. This also comes in size of 7*3,7*4. All our block-boards are chemically treated to make it termite and borer resistant. This wood is completely durable and incredibly sturdy, providing stability and stiffness.However, block-boards are not water resistant as they can retain the moisture.
